How delightful!

When professional wine critics discuss wines from a serious region like Bordeaux, they have a tendency to take all the fun out of it. That’s a disservice to a wine like the 2012 CHATEAU LA POINTE Pomerol, which is so instantly likeable and so pleasing to the palate that analyzing its strengths seems to belabor the reasoning behind why we like to drink great wine. It would truly suffice to say this high-class blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc tastes great and feels really great in the mouth. But, for the heck of it, let’s get a bit more detailed than that. The wine’s silky finesse of fine-tuned blackberry, dark plum and blueberry flavor notes, with an undercurrent of black earth, black licorice and black coffee, is instant gratification to the senses. This Pomerol’s texture is so clean and soft on the palate while structured—not flabby in the slightest. Thus, a wonderful red wine to pair with a special dinner prepared at home or at a fine-dining restaurant. The Cab Franc in the blend really brings an element of quiet sensuality. In other words, a great wine to serve as a prelude to some serious “sexy time,” as Borat from Kazakhstan would say. Just because this is a Bordeaux doesn’t mean you can’t have a fucking good time.  –J.M.
